Rhett and Saria's family

My dad, my mom, and my brother Nelson came to Salt Lake for the baby blessing and here are some pictures of them and Rhett. Also a reminder to them that should they want any of these pictures, they can click on the picture slideshow on the top right side of the page to download any picture they want to at full resolution.

My two gentlemen

So because Rhett was decked out in his white tux, John wanted to pull out his tux and get a tux picture with him. I think they are both ADORABLE!

Baby Blessing (8 Weeks)

Rhett received his baby blessing today (it's a process in which Rhett's name gets entered into church records and what is said in the blessing is how he will be known in church records). For the occasion, John's mom bought Rhett a white tux. I tried to get pretty good pictures of the tux, but it was hard to show white on white... :) Anyway, enjoy.

Rhett's tux is complete with a comberbun (spelling?)bowtie, and coat with tails. He was a heart stealer!

The bowtie...
the tails on the coat with the "satin" strips down the pants seams (I think it's really polyester because it is machine washable :))

7 Weeks Old

Rhett still sleeps the mornings away, but in the evening, his personality comes to life (bonus-- it also goes to sleep when I want to sleep!) Tonight, John was taking care of Rhett so I could study for my upcoming exam this week. I also asked if he would unload and reload the dish washer since we have slacked on it for the past couple of days. Well, John put Rhett in his carry pack and now that Rhett can hold up his head, we decided to see how he would do facing outward instead of in ward. I came in the kitchen to see John bending over the dishwasher and Rhett "flying"! John said that every time he bent over, Rhett would try to push off with his feet. Rhett is already putting weight on his feet and standing -- with a little help from us to hold him up of course. I'm just so amazed at how active he already is and he's not even 2 months old! I think he will be walking before he's crawling -- he just has to work on the balance and coordination issue! Anyway, I had them pose so I could get a picture of Rhett "helping" with the dishes. John was trying to get Rhett to hold on to the rubber wisk, but I don't think Rhett quite understood what he was suppose to do!

6 Weeks Old

These pictures were taken yesterday. It's the beginning of my spring break, but I was trying to get ahead on some homework. Rhett was a little crabby and didn't want to be laying down. So I sat his stoller seat up and strapped him in with the car seat head support. He sat like that for about an hour content to stare out the kitchen window. The stroller isn't ONLY good for walks and runs at the park! After an hour though, he was ready to be held again -- but it did buy me some time to get some things done!

I got some great pictures of Rhett smiling away. He is now 6 weeks old and his personality gets better every day! He is just a happy child and John and I are so lucky to have him in our lives. He brightens our day every day.

Bonding with Mom

Here are some pictures of Rhett and me. He was just waking up for the day.

An Enjoyable Bath

So, it goes without saying that most newborns don't like baths. Well, I didn't get a picture of Rhett's first bath which is probably a good thing because he usually just screams through the whole process until we get to the "cuddle with a towel" part of it. Well yesterday, Rhett started out with a glare, but I think a transition happened. He didn't seem to mind his bath... in fact, I think he enjoyed it a little bit!
Above is the evil eye that John swears is meant for him... :) Rhett is not only good at a pouty face, but he seems to have a mean glare down as well!

I think of all the reflexes that Rhett has, the moro reflex (spelling?) is bar far the best! He always looks like he's conducting a symphony or preaching or something.

Here, you can tell Rhett is getting use to the idea of a bath, he even knows to close his eyes to be rinsed off at the end.

John is usually the one to give Rhett a bath. I think it's part of their bonding time! Rhett really loves his daddy. Today, I was holding him and John was in the room and Rhett would just stare at him where ever he walked. I am super excited that Rhett will go to John or me when he's upset. I was so excited that Rhett's not turning into a "mommy's boy".

When all was said and done, I would say that Rhett looks pretty refreshed! A special thanks to grandma and grandpa Butler for the whale tub!

5 Weeks Old

I'm trying to give an update every week, so here is Rhett's update for five weeks old. Rhett just had his first Road Trip to Portland. Unfortunately, we didn't take our camera. We had a scrapbook show there and we didn't think we would get to much sight seeing... Anyway, Rhett did really well. We had to stop every few hours so he could eat, but he mostly slept. He did seem excited to get out of his car seat when we got there though. We arrived and hour before we could unpack our van, so we walked around a grocery store because he was getting cranky. I think he was excited to be out of his car seat because he stretched as stiff as a board and stayed stretched out for as long as we walked around! Though there were times when Rhett was a little fussy, overall, he was a crowd pleaser and brought buyers into our booth! John and I got good at playing tag team juggling the booth and walking around with Rhett to give him new scenery to look at. Each day, John taught a scrapbooking class and I had to run the booth by myself. I was concerned a little since I couldn't leave the booth with Rhett, but we put him in a snuggle pack on my stomach and he slept or looked around and was the PERFECT little baby. I was a BIG fan of the snuggle pack! On the way home, Rhett did really well until about the last half hour of the trip. We were really grateful that that was the worst of it! It was really hard for me not to be able to pick him out of his car seat and console him when all he really wanted was to be held. But who could blame him when for the prior 15 hours all he did was slept or stare at the back of a car seat?! Anyway, all in all, Rhett's first road trip and scrapbook show was an overall success.
The only picture we got this past week (other than the one I took today for his five week post), was John giving Rhett a banana to suck on. Though obviously he didn't eat much of it, here is the picture of Rhett's reaction to the flavor!

Here are some pictures I took today at five weeks old. Additionally, I finally got a decent mommy son picture (since I love the daddy son picture). Anyway, enjoy!

Rhett and Ginger

So I told my aunt that I had pictures of Rhett and Ginger on my blogspot and then I realized it was on my facebook page, so I wanted to get it up quickly before she came and looked. This picture is a little older. Rhett was one week old in these pictures. Ginger has been excellent with Rhett and we think they will be best friends now that Ginger is over her jealousy attack!

Candid Moments

We caught some great shots of Rhett today, so I just had to post them right away!

Rhett seemed pretty happy in a stockpot, which we randomly placed him in.... he seems interested in what he will taste like too! (Don't worry, no burners were on for this photoshoot!:))

Not even 1 month old (he will be tomorrow) and he's pounding out "Mary Had a Little Lamb" with daddy. I think he's a fan!
Rhett can hold his head up. I was actually trying to crawl. See video below! We caught him in action.

This photo quickly became my new computer desktop wallpaper. It is simply the cutest picture of daddy and son!
